Changing the World through Acts of Random Kindness
The ARK Journey
Acts of Random Kindness can literally change our world. So how exactly does an ARK Adventure work? Like any journey, each one is unique. The dynamics change depending upon the people involved, the needs at hand, and other factors. However, we've created a basic four-step process that takes an average of a month to complete. The journey looks a bit like this:
Vision Setting
Many people, when they first think of changing the world around them, aren't sure where to start. We begin by taking our adventurers through some exercises to help them identify needs they see that capture their attention and spark compassion in their hearts. We also look at what they are passionate about, their skills, experience, and readily available resources to meet the needs they have identified.
Funding and Support
We have a small pool of money we disperse each month to help make ARK Adventures a reality. This is done through a random drawing from among all the adventurers who have defined their vision. The lucky winner(s) receive a minimum of $100 to apply towards their adventure. After the contest, we select 4-6 people in the community to serve as a "circle of support" for each winner to help them plan and execute their adventure.
Disclaimer: we cannot guarantee every adventurer will receive funding each month. Our resources available for this varies depending upon the volume of donations and personal contributions for that month. Anyone who is not selected through our random-drawing contest has the option of postponing their adventure to another month, or proceeding as planned using resources they have already identified. If they choose to proceed, we will help them form a circle of support just like the ones for contest winners.
Adventure Planning
Collaborating with their circle, the ARK adventurers plan out their adventure including the end goals, steps along the way, and any additional resources needed to complete the mission. They set timelines for each milestone in the adventure, gather resources, get the support or involvement of other people as needed, and generally set the stage for the mission to be successfully carried out.
Mission Execution
Now that the plan is in place, the adventurers take action to complete their Act of Random Kindness. Although their circle and other people may play a part in the journey, each adventurer takes personal responsibility for guiding and taking action on the vision.
Is that the end of the journey?
For some people, it is the end. They enjoy their adventure, look back on the mission with satisfaction, and then go back to life as usual. Others participate in numerous ARK Adventures month after month, continuing to change the world through acts of random kindness.
For another group of people, this is just the beginning. These individuals find a true passion and calling in the midst of the journey. Their single ARK becomes an entire new life adventure, often in the form of a new career, business, or ongoing volunteer work.
